Excellent article. Lots of good ideas especially using raised beds you can reach across. I'll have to make mine 4 feet wide instead of 5 because my arms aren't as long as Mr. Point's must be. I don't bend as well as I did either so I think I'll make them a bit higher than 4 inches. I foot should do nicely. That will make the fertilizing, planting, weeding or cultivating that needs to be done. Thanks for the ideas. It will take me a couple of years to implement them all because of a very tight budget. I'll do it in sections. That way I'll even be better able to compare the results. They will work well I'm sure.
Thanks,
Sue

I've heard of Ed Smith and have seen his book but have not had an opportunity to read it. Most of my early influences were from John Jeavons of Ecology Action fame. I agree good gardening techniques are universal and timeless, the Chineese have been applying similar natural gardening methods for thousands of years.

Your techniques are exactly like those of Ed Smith, author of "The Vegetable Gardener's Bible"... Have you read any of his work? I was almost waiting for you to acknowledge him in that article! I suppose solid veggie gardening techniques are universal though! I use your same techniques in my garden in Dallas, Texas. Best of luck for an early spring!
